I am working on a piece called Blaa Blaa. It is a movement-based piece that revolves around the experience of overload. I currently combine set movement material and task-based moments in my choreography. The movement language seeks to connect with the overflowing flow of news, instructions and advice by placing the body in a flow of changing movement textures. A key source of inspiration is the gestures associated with speaking, and a certain precision of movement in the hands inspired by sign language.
The brilliant dancers working on this with me include Aino Strandberg, Aliina Lindroos, Anna Stenberg, Elina Hauta-Aho, Heidi Tiainen, Laura Lehtinen, Leila Kourkia, Leo Terävä, Milla Lassila, Minna Kaaronen, Riikka Niemistö, and Sonjis Laine.
For me, this project is an attempt to create regardless of any funding or production. I felt suffocated by the seemingly endless stream of project descriptions written before taking one step in the studio. My first professional work was in 2013, produced similarly. Now, almost 10 years after graduation, I desperately need to create, no matter what. And I’m not alone with my need to go to the studio and do things, since we are such a big group working together now. And what a wonderful feeling it is to dance together and be creative.
These dancers are fierce, as is the piece. So, contact me if you want to fund this project or offer us a space to produce this work.
